We are ESL teachers with many years of experience teaching English to students from all over the world.
This site is dedicated to Ruthanne Brown, an extraordinary teacher and teacher-trainer, and a
pioneer in ESL literacy. She, in turn, was inspired by the insights and materials of Dr.Caleb
Gattegno of Educational Solutions.

Because many adult learners do not have access to classes in their communities, we are offering the opportunity of becoming literate in very basic English online.
This site introduces American English sounds and their most common written forms. It also introduces numbers for use in expressing time and dates, American money and typical American addresses.
Students can practice this material in workbooks. The workbooks are available at newleafesl.com.
For ESL students who are already literate in basic English, there is another site –
englishforimmigrants.com. It introduces very beginning grammar for newcomers to the United
States.
